During the two-year duration of Instrument Mechanic (Chemical Plant) trade a candidate is trained on professional skill, professional knowledge, Engineering Drawing, Workshop Calculation & Science and Employability skill related to job role. In addition to this a candidate is entrusted to undertake project work and extracurricular activities to build up confidence. The broad components covered during the course are given below:

FIRST YEAR: In this year the trainee learns about safety and environment, use of fire extinguishers & PPEs to begin with. He gets the idea of trade tools & its standardization, Familiarize with chemistry and physics lab and also engineering workshop. Perform various types of titration and separate elements from mixtures and prepare standard solutions. Measure PH, and conductivity of various substances. Perform and practiceof basics fittings job in engineering workshop using proper tools and equipment. Practice drilling, reaming, counter boring, counter sinking, riveting, seaming and also thread cutting. Perform basic gas and arc welding. Identify various physical properties of materials and verify different physical laws by operating various instruments.

The candidate will be able to identify and test various types of electrical/electronic components. Identify, test and calibrate various electrical measuring instruments. Practice soldering & de-soldering of various electrical/electronic components in different circuits. Construct and test various rectifiers and voltage regulated power supply. Perform basic computer hardware like identify of various parts, connect cables, replace part and also dismantled and assemble of desktop computer.

SECOND YEAR: In this year the trainee will be able to Identify and select various types of field instruments as per the applications. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate, test and repair of pressure measuring, indicating and controlling field instruments and analyze the data. Plan and execute Erection and commission of field control loop system for pressure. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate, test and repair of temperature measuring, indicating, controlling and recording field instruments and analyze the data. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate, test and repair of flow measuring and indicating field instruments. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate, test and repair of level measuring, indicating and controlling field instruments and analyze the data. The trainee will apply safe working practice, follow instructional manual and handle calibrator and hart communicator. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate and repair electronic/pneumatic converters and safety valves. Perform calibrate, test and repair the various types of recorder of different type process parameters. Perform calibrate and test various transmitter for various process parameter. Select suitable controller, perform process control, troubleshoot and calibrate various controller in chemical plant. Plan and execute erection, commission, overhaul and repair of final control elements with accessories. Basic working and Identification of faults in process control based on PLC, SCADA and DCS. Operate packed distillation column and carry out maintenance of triple effect evaporator, heat exchanger and chiller. Plan and execute automatic process control block diagram and others field bus control systems.

Studies methods of processing of raw material to finished products. Examines plant and equipment to locate faults and removes minor defects on spot. Reports major defects and break downs to Chemical Engineer and dismantles defective unit as directed with necessary precaution, using hand tools, adopter, twists etc. as necessary. Replaces or repairs defective parts and components by re-metalling, filling, drilling, grinding, scraping, soldering, brazing, etc. as required and reassembles unit according to specifications with prescribed precautions particularly for explosive, gas acid and other chemical plants, ensuring correct alignment clearance, valve operations, adjustments, flow of material operational functions and other necessary details. Tests assembled unit for proper performance, makes further adjustments, if necessary and gets assembled if examined by appropriate authority before handing over to production. Checks, adjusts and lubricates equipment periodically or gets it done and performs other tasks to maintain plan in proper working order. May maintain records of parts examined, repairs done, replacements made and plant performance. May erect and install equipment under the guidance of Chemical Engineer.

Trainee learns about elementary first aid, firefighting, environment regulation and housekeeping etc. Performs joining of MS sheet by Gas welding in different positions, Joins MS plates by SMAW in different positions, performs straight, bevel & circular cutting on MS plate by Oxy-acetylene cutting process. The trainee leans joining of different types of MS pipe by Gas welding (OAW), SMAW. The Trainee sets up GMAW/ GTAW plant and weld M.S, S.S and Aluminium sheets in all positions, performs Arc gauging on MS plate, joins MS/ Aluminium /SS sheets/plates by GMAW, GTAW & FCAW process in various positions using different modes of metal transfer. Cuts ferrous and non-ferrous metal using plasma Arc cutting. The trainee tests welded joint by visual inspection Dye penetrant & Magnetic particle testing methods.

Professional Knowledge subject is simultaneously taught in the same fashion to apply cognitive knowledge while executing task. In addition components like Physical properties of engineering materials, different types of iron, properties and uses. In addition to above components the core skills components viz., Workshop calculation & science, Engineering drawing, employability skills are also covered. These core skills are essential skills which are necessary to perform the job in any given situation.

During the one-year duration a candidate of Welder (Structural) is trained on subjects Professional Skill, Professional Knowledge, Engineering Drawing, Workshop Science & Calculation and Employability Skillsrelated to job role. In addition to this a candidate is entrusted to make/do project work and Extra Curricular Activities to build up confidence. The practical skills are imparted in simple to complex manner & simultaneously theory subject is taught in the same fashion to apply cognitive knowledge while executing task. The broad components covered under subject are as below:-

In one year duration the trainees will be able to join MS sheet by Gas, join SMAW welding in different positions; perform straight, bevel & circular cutting on MS plate by Oxyacetylene cutting process. Perform different type of MS pipe joints by Gas welding (OAW);weld different types of MS pipe joints on structural pipes by SMAW; weld Stainless steel, Cast iron, Aluminum and Brass by OAW .Perform brazing on MS sheets, Arc gauging on MS plate, perform plasma cutting; perform fillet welding on M.S plates 1F,2F,3F,4F& 5F positions by SMAW; perform Full penetration Single "V" butt joint on MS plates in 1G,2G,3G &4G position adapting root Inspection and clearance by D.P test. Perform welding of M.S,S.S and Aluminium sheets, M.S tubes (square butt T,Y,K joints) by GTAW in down hand position with root Inspection by D.P test; perform bending, straightening and edge planning for fabrication of structures; perform Double bevel butt joint on dissimilar thickness MS Flats in down hand positions by SMAW with root Inspection by D.P test and back gouging and adapting standard welding sequence; perform welding of pipe joints in different positions; perform Lap, T , Corner joints on GMAW and Flux Cored Arc welding process on M.S in down hand position; perform Automatic Submerged Arc Welding machine; Manufacture simple structures with L angles, I section and channel sections using welding fixture by SMAW; Correct distortion by cold &hot method adapting skip welding & back step welding method for controlling distortion; fabricate pipe/cone on M.S. sheet by SMAW; prepare weld test specimen as per a standard; carry out Inspection & Testing.
