Sanitary Hardware Fitter / Plumber, General lays out,assembles, installs and maintains sanitaryfittings and fixtures, sewage and drainagesystems, heating and sanitary systems, gasand water pipe lines etc. Receivesinstructions from Sanitary Engineer or CivilEngineer regarding layout of pipes, water mains, position of fixtures and fittings,etc. Examines drawings or otherspecifications regarding size and dimensionsof area where sanitary fittings or pipe are tobe fitted or laid. Marks points at places toindicate position for fixing brackets andlaying pipes. Drills passage holes in walls orfloor of premises and fixes necessary brackets, stands, holders etc. to keep or holdfittings and fixtures in position, using nuts,bolts, clamps etc. and tightens them with handtools. Cuts reams, threads and bends pipes asappropriate. Ensures that pipe lines are laidproperly. Joins pipes withsockets, Tees, elbow etc. or with molten lead orlead wool. Caulks joints (operation of makingjoint seam tight to withstand pressure) and teststhem for leaks with pneumatic or hydraulicpressure. May repair and maintain sewerageand pipe lines by replacing washers on leakyfaucets, mending burst pipes, opening cloggeddrains, etc.

Eligibility
Passed 10th class (SSLC) examination under 10+2 system of education with Science as one of the subject or its equivalent.
Admission Process
Age
The candidates of 14 - 40 years of age as on date of start of admission session are eligible for admission in ITIs.
Age Relaxation
(i) There is no objection to the state government/union territory administration making necessary relaxation of upper age limit up to 45 years in case of ex-servicemen.
(ii) Relaxation of upper age limit up to 45 years permissible in case of war widows.
(iii) Widows/separated women would be allowed to join various training programmers under C.T.S. up to the age of 35 years.
(iv) The upper age limit of physically handicapped candidates has been relaxed by 10 years and kept as 35 years on the date of start of admission session.
Selection
Selection of candidates for admission in Industrial Training Institutes start well in advance of the commencement of each session. Admission should as far as possible be completed by the date of starting of the session. Where it may be necessary to continue admission beyond the date of commencement of the session for filling vacant seats it should not in any case go beyond one month of the date in the case of two-year trades and 15 days in case of one-year trades.
Selection of the Candidate
As per the recommendation of NCVT admission in ITIs are to be made purely on merit based on the marks secured by the candidate in the public examination of the minimum qualification prescribed for the individual trade.

Start of Session
Session in ITIs starts from 1st February and 1st August every year.
Job Opportunities After the Course
During ITI training the trainees acquire practical skills of the trades and they are capable of doing production jobs under the supervision of skilled worker. At this stage they are categorised as semi-skilled worker.
Under Apprentice Act-1961 the ITI pass-outs can be engaged in the relevant designated trade by the industry having adequate training facilities. The candidates so engaged will learn the productive / marketable skills and become suitable for employment.
After passing the NCVT examination if the candidate instead of taking job with industry he is willing to start small business he can do so with the assistance of government agencies promoting such activity and providing necessary assistance.
