Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training, Assam

The Directorate of Employment & Craftsmen Training, Assam under the Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Department, Govt. of Assam have three wings namely:

Craftsmen Training scheme
Employment Service scheme
Apprenticeship Training

This Directorate is providing training avenues through different Govt. ITIs of the state under Craftsman Training Scheme of Government of India, with the following objectives:

To provide semi skilled/skilled workers to industry by systematic training.
To reduce unemployment among educated youths by equipping them with suitable skills for Industrial Employment & self Employment.

Director General of Training under the directions of National Council of Vocational Training which is the apex body at Government of India level for coordinating development of Vocational Training in the country. The NCVT certificates are issued to the passed out trainees of NCVT trades. Similar to the National Council for Vocational Training at Central level, State Council for Vocational Training at the State level is responsible for coordinating an integrated development of Vocational Training. The SCVT certificates are issued to the passed out trainees of SCVT trades.

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, an organization of Government of India under Union Ministry of Information Communication & Technology for providing ICT based solutions to Government and Semi-Government organizations, has been entrusted to accomplish the task of Software development, launching of Web based Online off campus counseling for admissions to all the courses being running in all the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the State.

A trainee of the course ‘Dress Making’ constructs dresses for children (Yoke Frock), dresses for teenagers, ladies dress, ladies suit, ladies night wear, ladies blouse, gents shirt, and gents trouser, according the sketched designs and blocks using adaptation/draping and manipulation techniques. The trainee also practices, maintains and troubleshoots basic sewing machines and over-lock machines. The course is meant for a trainee who aspires to become a Sewing Machine operator, Designer to a Boutique, Stylist in Boutique, Consultant to a Boutique, Be-spoke designer, Design Assistant in Export units, Design service in e-tailing, and Assistant Production Merchandiser

The qualification gives access to jobs such as Sewing Machine operator, Designer to a Boutique, Stylist in Boutique, Consultant to a Boutique, Be-spoke designer, Design Assistant in Export units, Design service in e-tailing, Assistant Production Merchandiser.

This qualification will enable the trainee to find employment as a skilled worker to perform jobs in the Dress Making field

Automobile and allied industries

International Comparability

Existence of any official document suggesting the comparability of the qualification with the qualifications in other countries is not known.
However, ITI passed out trainees are getting employment in many Gulf countries, European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore etc.

Progression Pathway

Can appear in 10+2 examination through National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) for acquiring higher secondary certificate and can go further for General/ Technical education
Can take admission in diploma course in notified branches of Engineering by lateral entry
Can join as semi-skilled worker in the industry and can become supervisor after doing part-time diploma in relevant branch of Engineering
Can join Apprenticeship programme in different types of industries leading to National Apprenticeship certificate (NAC) after which they will be employed in industry as skilled worker and can become supervisor after doing part-time diploma in relevant branch of Engineering
Can join Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) in the relevant trade after which they will be employed in ITI/ Vocational Training Institute as instructor
