Gender Analysis of PMKVY 2.0 – Short Term Training (STT)

NSDC's Market Analytics, Impact and Innovation team shared their findings from the gender analysis of PMKVY 2.0 - Short-term training component. The BBL analysed and compared indicators at various stages of the skilling value chain – such as drop-out rates, failure rates and placement rates – for females and males. It also included analysis by age group, education, state, sector, and job role, and responded to questions such as:
• Is there a gender difference in outcomes at different stages in the skilling value chain?
• Does age group matter in gender outcomes?

Skilling to Close the Economic Gender Gap

Gender inequality is a multi-dimensional issue. According to World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2020, it shall take 257 years to close the gender gap in the economy. Additionally, India ranks 112th in terms of economic gender parity, a slip from 108th position last year, and 1/3rd of the gap still needs to be closed. The situation demands a workable solution that addresses the cultural attitudes that socialize gender inequalities.
