Brief description of job roles:
Electronics Fitter, General fits, assembles and repairs various kinds of electronic equipment in factory or workshop or at place of use. Examines drawings and wiring diagrams; checks parts for accuracy of fit and minor adjustments; assembles parts or mounts them on chassis or panels with aid of hand tools; installs and connects wiring, soldering joints equipment, diagnoses faults with aid of electronic testing equipment; dismantles equipment if required and replaces faulty parts or wiring.
Electronics Fitter, other include all other workers engaged in fitting, assembling, repairing and maintaining electronic equipment, machinery, appliances, etc., not elsewhere classified.
Electronics Mechanic; Electronic Equipment Mechanic repairs electronic equipment, such as computers, industrial controls, transmitters, and telemetering control systems following blueprints and manufacturer's specifications and using hand tools and test instruments. Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction. Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects, using instruments, such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, ammeters and voltmeters. Replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts, using hand tools and soldering iron. Aligns, adjusts and calibrates testing instruments. Maintains records of repairs, calibrations and test.
Radio Technician (Radio Manufacturing) tests assembled radio sets with testing equipment to ensure that assembly soldering, frequency, performance, etc. are in accordance with prescribed standards. Places assembled radio set in position and visually examines it to ensure that position of components, connections, soldering, wiring, etc. are in order. Switches on and operates different knobs to check calibration, audibility and general performance of set by varying its tone and listening to various stations and frequencies. Tightens loose nuts and screws, locates faults, replaces defective components and conducts necessary changes. Approves correctly assembled sets for further processing and rejects defective ones for rectification. May tests sets at different stages of assembly. May service, repair and overhaul radio sets.
Solar Panel Installation Technician is also known as ‘Panel Installer’, the Solar Panel Installation Technician is responsible for installing solar panels at the customers’ premises. The individual at work checks the installation site, understands the layout requirement as per design, assesses precautionary measures to be taken, installs the solar panel as per customer’s requirement and ensures effective functioning of the system post installation.
Optical fibre technician is responsible for maintaining uptime and quality of the network segment (both optical media and equipment) assigned to him by undertaking periodic preventive maintenance activities and ensuring effective fault management in case of fault occurrence. He is also required to coordinate activities for installation and commissioning of Optical Fibre Cable (OF) as per the route plan.
Field Technician: UPS and Inverter is also called, ‘UPS repair Technician’, this is an after sales service job for installing and providing support to customers of different types of UPS and inverters. The individual at work installs the newly purchased UPS or inverter. The individual also and interacts with customers to diagnose problems in them, assesses possible causes, rectifies faults or replaces faulty modules or recommends factory repairs for bigger faults as per the route plan. Installation, service, repair and overhaul radio sets service centre. May install television sets.
Television Installation Man installs and adjusts television receivers and antennas, using hand tools. Selects antenna according to type of set and location of transmitting station. Bolts cross arms and dipole elements in position to assemble antenna. Secures antenna in place with bracket and guy wires, observing insurance codes and local ordinances to protect installation from lighting and other hazards. Drills and waterproofs holes in building to make passage for transmission line. Connects line between receiver and antenna and fastens it in place. Tunes receiver on all channels and adjusts screws to obtain desired density, linearity, focus and size of picture. Orients antenna and installs reflector to obtain strongest possible reception.
Cable Television Installer installs cable television cables and equipment on customer's premises, using electrician's tools and test equipment: Measures television signal strength at utility pole, using electronic test equipment. Computes impedance of wire from pole to house to determine additional resistance needed for reducing signal to desired level. Installs terminal boxes and strings lead-in wires, using electrician's tools. Connects television set to cable system and evaluates incoming signal. Adjusts and repairs cable system to ensure optimum reception. May collect installation fees and explain cable service operation to subscriber. May clean and maintain tools, test equipment.
Television Service and Repairman repairs and adjusts radios and television receivers, using hand tools and electronic testing instruments. Tunes receiver on all channels and observes audio and video characteristics to locate source of trouble. Adjusts controls to obtain desired density, linearity, focus and size of picture. Examines chassis for defects. Tests voltages and resistance of circuits to isolate defect following schematic diagram and using voltmeter, oscilloscope, signal generator and other electronic testing instruments. Tests and changes tubes, solders loose connections and repairs or replaces defective parts, using hand tools and soldering iron. Repair radios and other audio equipment.
Television Repair Technician job role is applicable to both Television manufacturing facilities as well as electronics service centres. This role pertains to rectify faults identified during testing of TV on in manufacturing process and providing after sales assistance and ensuring appropriate functioning of television sets. A TV repair technician identifies the section in the TV that is not functioning. If the problem identified is in the Printed Circuit Board (PCB), the technician identifies the specific fault in the PCB and corrects it. Replaces the dysfunctional PCB with a new one, if the damage identified requires fixing at the service centre.
Plan and organize assigned work and detect & resolve issues during execution. Demonstrate possible solutions and agree tasks within the team. Communicate with required clarity and understand technical English. Sensitive to environment, self-learning and productivity.
Instrument Mechanic

Mechanic Precision Instrument, General; tests, repairs, overhauls and assembles various precision instruments and their parts for efficient performance. Examines instrument for defects. Dismantles components and cleans them in appropriate fluid such as petrol, kerosene etc. to find out extent of damage or wear and tear to parts. Removes minor defects of parts by grinding, filing, drilling, etc. and replaces worn out and damaged parts. Adjusts position of various parts using screwdriver, spanner etc. and assembles instrument to form complete unit. Makes simple electrical connections, solders contact points and performs other tasks as necessary. Tests performance either by visual observation or by conducting simple electrical and mechanical tests and ensures that repaired or assembled instrument conforms to prescribed efficiency. May make new components and assemble new instruments. May specialize in any particular type of instrument like mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, optical, orthopedic etc.
Technician Instrumentation; dismantles removes and replaces a range of instruments and faulty peripheral components down to unit and component level, setting up test equipment, troubleshooting components of instruments, calibrating them and also preparing service reports and accurately documenting parts replacement and repair.
Mechanic Precision Instrument, Mechanical; makes, alters and adjusts mechanical instruments or mechanical parts of electrical and optical instruments by accurate milling, filing, grinding, lapping and other processes. Studies drawings or samples and examines precision instrument like balance, meters, pressure gauges etc. for defects. Dismantles instrument, cleans metal components in petrol, kerosene oil or otherwise and checks them to find out extent of damage and further serviceability. Makes new parts on lathe milling or other machines, if necessary. Sizes and fits metal parts by filing, scraping, grinding lapping etc. as necessary and ensures their desired accuracy by checking with precision measuring instruments shadow graph and other highly perfect devices. Assembles parts to form complete unit. Gets electrical components repaired by Electrician. Fits electrical and optical parts to instrument and adjusts them as required. Texts repaired or assembled instrument for clarity or vision sensitivity, correct meter and scale readings etc. as required and ensures stipulated performance within prescribed limits. Makes necessary adjustments and seals meters to avoid manipulations. May specialize in particular type of instruments like balance, pressure gauges, meters, the odolites etc. May make new instruments from blue prints.
Functional Tester; is responsible for checking functions of manufactured industrial equipment such as UPS, inverter, energy meter, PLC, oscilloscope, control panel. The individual at work tests specified functions of every product being assembled on the production line.
Instrument Mechanic (Chemical Plant)
During the two-year duration of Instrument Mechanic (Chemical Plant) trade a candidate is trained on professional skill, professional knowledge, Engineering Drawing, Workshop Calculation & Science and Employability skill related to job role. In addition to this a candidate is entrusted to undertake project work and extracurricular activities to build up confidence. The broad components covered during the course are given below:
FIRST YEAR: In this year the trainee learns about safety and environment, use of fire extinguishers & PPEs to begin with. He gets the idea of trade tools & its standardization, Familiarize with chemistry and physics lab and also engineering workshop. Perform various types of titration and separate elements from mixtures and prepare standard solutions. Measure PH, and conductivity of various substances. Perform and practiceof basics fittings job in engineering workshop using proper tools and equipment. Practice drilling, reaming, counter boring, counter sinking, riveting, seaming and also thread cutting. Perform basic gas and arc welding. Identify various physical properties of materials and verify different physical laws by operating various instruments.
The candidate will be able to identify and test various types of electrical/electronic components. Identify, test and calibrate various electrical measuring instruments. Practice soldering & de-soldering of various electrical/electronic components in different circuits. Construct and test various rectifiers and voltage regulated power supply. Perform basic computer hardware like identify of various parts, connect cables, replace part and also dismantled and assemble of desktop computer.
SECOND YEAR: In this year the trainee will be able to Identify and select various types of field instruments as per the applications. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate, test and repair of pressure measuring, indicating and controlling field instruments and analyze the data. Plan and execute Erection and commission of field control loop system for pressure. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate, test and repair of temperature measuring, indicating, controlling and recording field instruments and analyze the data. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate, test and repair of flow measuring and indicating field instruments. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate, test and repair of level measuring, indicating and controlling field instruments and analyze the data. The trainee will apply safe working practice, follow instructional manual and handle calibrator and hart communicator. Perform troubleshoot, calibrate and repair electronic/pneumatic converters and safety valves. Perform calibrate, test and repair the various types of recorder of different type process parameters. Perform calibrate and test various transmitter for various process parameter. Select suitable controller, perform process control, troubleshoot and calibrate various controller in chemical plant. Plan and execute erection, commission, overhaul and repair of final control elements with accessories. Basic working and Identification of faults in process control based on PLC, SCADA and DCS. Operate packed distillation column and carry out maintenance of triple effect evaporator, heat exchanger and chiller. Plan and execute automatic process control block diagram and others field bus control systems.
Lift and Escalator Mechanic
During the two-year duration of Lift and Escalator Mechanic trade a candidate is trained on professional skill, professional knowledge, Engineering Drawing, Workshop Calculation & Science and Employability skill. In addition to this a candidate is entrusted to undertake project work and extracurricular activities to build up confidence. The broad components covered related to the trade are categorized in four semesters each of six months duration. The semester wise course coverage is categorized as below: -
1 st Semester - In this semester the trainee learns about safety and environment, use of fire extinguishers and artificial respiratory resuscitation. He gets the idea of trade tools & its standardization, identifies different types of conductors, cables & their skinning, joint making, soldering and crimping. He practices on allied trades like carpentry and fitting work. Basic electrical laws like Kirchhoff͛s law, ohm͛s law, laws of resistances and their application in different combinations of electrical circuit are practiced along with laws of magnetism. The trainee practices on testing and maintenance of batteries. The trainee works with different types of analog and digital measuring instruments. He also gets the basic idea of electronic components.
2 nd Semester - In this semester the trainee practices on basic civil/ drafting work. He uses lifting tools like hoist, pulley, chain block and carries out simple welding. He learns about panel wiring and fitment of various components. Basic function of Transformers and its testing is covered. The trainee practices on AC/DC machines, their starting, running, speed control, reversal of rotation and basic maintenance. He learns connection and operation of lift motor through VVVF drive, different parts of AC/DC drives, terminals of AC/DC drives. The trainee learns about power electronic devices viz., SCR, DIAC, TRAIC, UJT, FET, JFET, MOSFET etc., practices on D/A and A/C converters and controllers.
3 rd Semester - In this semester the trainee learns about safety practice to be adhered while working in elevators and escalators. He understands the working of Elevators, Escalators and Moving walkways. The trainee practices on installation/ fixing of all the component/ parts, control and safety circuits of Elevators. He understands installation process of lifts, types of elevator well, car bottom clearance, landing zone, top over travel, overhead clearance, observe running clearance. The trainee understands constructions and parts of escalators and moving walkways. He practices on various calculations like alighting areas, pit area etc. Practices on fixing of different mechanical parts, control and electrical equipment.
4 th Semester - In this semester the trainee learns and practices on installation of various electrical and electronic control devices, safety devices, control panels, limit switches and power wiring, etc. He carries out various checks, testing/ tuning of components, examine safety devices of lifts, escalators and moving walkways and ensures safe operation. The trainee practices on repairing/ replacement of electrical and electronic components, servicing of various mechanical parts, draining out and refilling of grease and oils, etc. He also gets familiarize with auto rescue device.

Solar Panel Installation Technician is also known as ‘Panel Installer’, the Solar Panel Installation Technician is responsible for installing solar panels at the customers’ premises. Patient Monitoring system, pulmonary Function Analyses, Blood gas analyzers, Cardiac Defibrillators Installs, X-ray machine technician Ultrasonic Imaging Systems Functioning. If the problem identified is in the Printed Circuit Board (PCB), the technician identifies the specific fault in the PCB and corrects it. Replaces the dysfunctional PCB with a new one, if the damage identified requires fixing at the service Centre.
Plan and organize assigned work and detect & resolve issues during execution. Demonstrate possible solutions and agree tasks within the team. Communicate with required clarity and understand technical English. Sensitive to environment, self-learning and productivity.
Mechanic Mining Machinery
During the two-year duration of Mechanic Mining Machinery trade, a candidate is trained on subjects- Professional Skill, Professional Knowledge, Engineering Drawing, Workshop Science & Calculation and Employability Skills related to job role. In addition to this, a candidate is entrusted to make/do project work and Extra Curricular Activities to build up confidence. The practical skills are imparted in simple to complex manner & simultaneously theory subject is taught in the same fashion to apply cognitive knowledge while executing task.
The content broadly covers fitting of different components by operating different hand tools conventional machines and maintenance of machineries used in Mining. The broad components covered under Professional Skill subject are as below:
FIRST YEAR:
In this year, the contents covered are from safety aspect related to the trade, basic fitting operations viz., making, filing, sawing, chiseling, drilling, tapping, grinding. Making different fits viz., sliding, T-fit and square fit with an accuracy of ±0.2mm & angular tolerance of 1 . Lathe operation on different shaped job and produce components by different turning operation including thread cutting and relevant job on Shaper and Milling Machine. Also, preventive maintenance of pumps and compressors.
This year starts with practice on construction of SI engine Followed by maintenance and overhauling practice of different types of engines and their parts. Next, practice on measurement of voltage, current, power factor and other components of electrical circuits. Practical on Construction of transformer and test of transformers and rectifier circuits.
SECOND YEAR:
In this year, overhauling of different types of pumps and motors are covered in the beginning followed by stator and rotor winding of induction motors, practice on different circuit breakers and relays. Basic practice on hydraulic and pneumatic parts and circuit making. Practice on assembly of tyre and inspection of puncture. Next, practice on operation and maintenance of different machines used in mining like crawler, hydraulic shovel, walking dragline, wagon drill, blast hole drill, jack hammer, tractor dozer, wheel loader, dumper etc
The trainees will practice on operation and maintenance of Motor Grader and surface miner is covered in the beginning. In addition to this, practice on maintenance of cutting drum picks and other maintenance activities of machines working in mines. Next, practice on maintenance of conveyor belt, air compressor, hydraulic hoist and lubrication system. Also practical on overhauling of gear box, brake system and lighting system and wiper system of vehicles carried out. And practice on maintenance of different mining machineries along with measurement of insulation resistance, illumination and localization of cable fault.

During one year duration the trainees learn about safety aspect in general and specific to the trade, identification of tools & equipment, raw materials used. The trainee will perform Measuring & marking by using various Measuring & Marking tools. The trainee will be able to plan and perform basic fastening and fitting operations. Familiarize with basics of electricity, test and measure the electrical parameter. Practice on maintenance of batteries. Practice making various welding joints by using Arc and gas welding. The candidate will practice on dismantling Engine of Two and Three-Wheeler as per given standard procedures. Able to achieve skill on Overhauling of Cylinder Head, valve train, Piston, connecting rod assembly, crankshaft, flywheel and mounting flanges, spigot and bearings, camshaft etc. practice reassembling all parts of engine in correct sequence as per workshop manual. Perform troubleshooting of Excessive smoke, knocking or abnormal noise etc. Practice servicing of Fuel Tank and its components, repair and overhaul Steering and suspension system of three wheelers. The trainee will overhaul brake system, transmission system and LPG/CNG fuel system of Two and three wheelers. Perform servicing and maintenance.

The trainee learns toapply safe working practices in a work shop; make choices to carry out marking out the components for basic fitting operations in the work shop; use different types of tools and work shop equipment in workshop; perform precision measurements on the components and compare parameters with specifications used in work shop practices. He/ she is able to use different type of fastening and locking devices in a in Diesel Engine; cutting tools in the work shop following safety precautions while grinding; perform basic fitting operations used in the work shop practices and inspection of dimensions; produce sheet metal components using various sheet metal operations; perform basic electrical testing in a in Diesel Engine; perform battery testing and charging operations; construct basic electronic circuits and testing; manufacture components with different types of welding processes in the given job and inspect component using Nondestructive testing methods.
During the later phase the trainee is familiarized with the identification of hydraulic and pneumatic components in a Diesel Engine Pump. He/she is able to identify and check functionality of stationary Diesel Engine - components, & engine performance on load and engine speed; diagnose and troubleshoot Diesel Engines for mechanical &electrical causes; servicing of plain/journal bearings, anti-friction bearings; identify and check functionality of major components and assemblies of reciprocating pumps, rotary pumps. They are trained to ascertain and select measuring instrument and measure dimension of components and evaluate for accuracy; use different types of conventional and special tools, hardware, fasteners and work shop equipment in the workshop; trouble shooting of pumps; identify and check functionality of major components and assemblies of centrifugal pumps; identify and check functionality of major components and assemblies of submersible pumps; carryout repairs in the fuel feed system; apply safe working practices and environment regulation in an workshop; construct electrical circuits and test its parameters by using electrical measuring instruments etc.
