Welcome to the course on ‘Tribals of South and Central India’.

 

In this course, we will be learning about the tribal population existing in South and Central India along with their unique features and characteristics including culture, practices, beliefs, social organization, their livelihood, etc. This course will also highlight some of the emerging problems and perspectives of tribal development in the region.

 

This course not only provides knowledge but also impart deeper understanding of the diversity of our nation.

Dr. G. Mahesh

Indira Gandhi National Open University

Dr. G. Mahesh is a qualified social worker and public health professional with M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Social Medicine and Community Health from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has been trained and committed to work for rights based and gender sensitive issues. Prior to joining IGNOU, he has worked with international organizations in the field of Public Health, coordinating and facilitating regional and country level HIV and AIDS initiatives, liaising and networking with Government, national, international agencies and Civil Society Organisations working on HIV and AIDS in the Asia Pacific region.

 

Dr. Mahesh has keen interest in the areas of tribal development, professional ethics, human animal conflict (HAC), fundraising, institution building, networking and advocacy as significant tools in the field of social work. He has been working towards strengthening Social Work education and practice in Open and Distance Learning. Presently, Dr. Mahesh is coordinating CAFE and DAFE programmes in the School of Social Work.
